What is the Big Spiritual Shift of 2026

Apr 21, 2026

In this post:

  • Why 2026 is asking something different of you than the last few years did
  • The difference between feeling and sensing, and why it matters now
  • A simple, honest body-based practice you can do anywhere
  • What the melting of the ice in our hearts has to do with all of it
  • How to find your own voice again when the world feels loud

My sister Serafina went looking for the biggest spiritual question on the internet right now, and this is the one that kept rising to the top:

What is the big spiritual shift of 2026?

I want to answer this question in the way I often find my way through any question that matters. Through the body, the main interface we are given at birth.

Here is what I notice, when I drop in.

Sensing, not feeling

There is a small distinction that has changed everything for me, and I want to give it to you before we go further.

When most of us say I feel, we are already interpreting. I feel anxious. I feel restless. I feel scared. The mind has already moved in, named the sensation and jumped to its interpretation.

But before we get to interpretation we have the sensation. This might show up as a tingling, a jitter, an expansion or contraction.

That is what I mean with sensing.

If I close my eyes right now and sense into my body and into what the rest of this year is asking of me, I notice an almost roller-coaster movement that begins somewhere between my heart and my solar plexus. It is intense. It rises and moves up through my throat. It wants to get out.

I could call this anxiety and do my best to make it stop. Or I could stay with it, and let it tell me what it actually is. I choose the latter.

When I stay with it, I understand there is something in me that wants to be expressed in a much bigger and much more honest way than I have allowed until now. If I do not grow into the version of myself who can carry that expression, my body will let me know through tension and tightness, possibly even illness.

These sensations are not just my own.

The old occult teaching is that what one of us is moving through, all of us are moving through. We mirror each other. As long as one being on this earth is suffering, all of us carry some thread of that suffering too.

So if I take what I am sensing in my own body as a clue to the larger shift, here is what I would say.

The shift is somatic, and it is not a walk in the park

2026 is asking us to transform in a real way. Last year was the dissolving year of the snake. Many of us went into something we could not name, and the form we knew ourselves in came apart.

This year feels like a butterfly. Which sounds beautiful, and is. But a butterfly is also a creature of intense movement followed by complete stillness, alternating again and again. There is nothing lazy about it. This is amplified by this being the year of the fire horse.

The shift, as I sense it, is this: We are being asked to become large enough to hold and express the energy that is moving through us. The fire of this time is not a metaphor. It is real, it is in your hips, it is in your belly, it is at the back of your spine, and it wants to rise up and come out.

This is the work of an embodied spiritual practice.

Melt the ice in your heart

There is a Greenlandic prophecy I think about often, spoken by an elder whose name in his own language refers to him as the one who looks like his uncle. He said that we are in a phase of massive transition, and the only way we get through it alive is to melt the ice in our hearts.

I cannot stop thinking about this.

Because if you put the somatic picture together, it almost diagrams itself. There is fire below. Earthy, creative, sexual, rooted, alive. And there is ice above. The places in the heart we have closed because they hurt too much, or because we were told it was unsafe to feel them.

The practice is to let the fire melt the ice.

This happens by breathing deep and being honest with yourself. It is not something we can force. A body-based spiritual practice is a secret key to allowing this process.

A practice you can do right now

If you can, close your eyes.

Begin in the cauldron of your hips. This is your base and the place where creation, your sexual energy lives, and your rootedness lives. Notice and sense it. There is no right answer. Whatever you find, you find.

Now let that energy rise. Up through your belly. You may feel it move along the back of your spine as well.

Let it gather in your solar plexus. Sense the fire there. Bursting forth. This is the seat of self-expression.

Let the fire move further up. Into your heart. And let it melt whatever ice is there. Feel your heart open as you do so.

Then let the energy rise once more. Up through your throat and ask yourself, without thinking, without editing:

What is the truest thing I most want to say right now?

Whatever comes through allow it to take the shape of words spoken out loud. The brain is only as a translator and a witness.

Why this matters more this year than last

What I notice, and what Serafina pointed out as we recorded this conversation, is that spirituality is becoming necessary for more people than ever before.

Yoga came in. Then meditation and sound baths. Now we are moving towards the deeper layers underneath. People who would have rolled their eyes ten years ago are admitting out loud that they are seeking out these practices. Our parents went from being concerned about my path to being some of its biggest supporters. The shift is everywhere, even in the people who would not call themselves spiritual.

The reason is simple: The pace and pressure of modern life, combined with whatever is happening collectively right now, is asking more of the human nervous system than it can metabolize.

This is why somatic spirituality is the medicine of this moment. It is not a trend but a real necessity.

The honest part: A deep share from Serafina

"I want to share one more thing, because the practice we just did showed me something while I we were recording our podcast.

When I asked myself the question, what do I most want to share right now, the first thing that came up was a thought my brain immediately tried to silence. No, this is not the right place. Save it for later. Not here.

But the heart had already answered. Here it is

I want us (Pipaluk and myself) to answer the questions that actually matter to people."

When the practice is not enough on its own

A daily body-based practice is the foundation. But there comes a point for some people, and you will know if you are one of them, where the work asks for a container that can offer structure and initiation that brings lasting change.

Magic is Key is an online school of mystery school, combining shamanic witchcraft, somatic healing, and sacred seasonal wisdom for modern life. We exist for those who have done a lot of the inner work alone and is now ready for the next layer. The deeper one. The initiatory one.

Pipaluk's six-month Apprenticeship is for those who are ready for:

  • A daily practice that is fully yours, built from the ground up with you over six to twelve months
  • A personal cosmology — your directions, your allies, your ancestors — mapped, tested, and lived
  • A working relationship with your otherworldly team that will keep deepening long after the apprenticeship ends
  • Discernment skills that make every future teacher, tradition, and practice easier to evaluate
  • The option of formal initiation — a threshold into lineage, if your path calls for it
  • A guide who knows you, and whom you can return to at future thresholds in your life

If you are not sure yet, the way in is a free Compass Call. These fifteen minutes are not a sales call. It is a real conversation about where you are in your journey and what your next step might actually be. You may leave with clarity that has nothing to do with us, and that is a good outcome too.

Frequently asked questions

What is the big spiritual shift of 2026? At the level of the body, the shift is an invitation to become large enough to hold and express the energy already moving through you. The somatic experience of this year for many people is fire rising from the root, gathering in the solar plexus, and asking to be expressed through the throat. The work is to grow into the version of yourself who can let that expression through, rather than holding it back until it shows up as illness, tension, or burnout.

How do I reconnect with myself spiritually? Start with the body. Spend a few minutes a day sensing into what is actually happening in your physical form, before your mind translates it into a story. Notice the difference between feeling (interpretation) and sensing (raw experience). This single distinction is the doorway back to yourself.

What is somatic spirituality? Somatic spirituality is a body-based spiritual practice that treats the body as the primary instrument of spiritual experience, rather than something to transcend. It draws on nervous system science, ancient embodied traditions, and trauma-informed care. At Magic is Key, we hold somatic practice as inseparable from shamanic and witchcraft traditions, because all of these traditions were always somatic before the modern split between body and spirit.

How do I start a daily spiritual practice that I will actually keep? Make it small enough that you cannot fail. Two to five minutes of sensing into your body each morning is a real practice. Add the energy-rising visualisation from this post once or twice a week. Build slowly. The practice that lasts is the one that fits inside your real life, not the one that requires you to become a different person to do it.

How do I heal burnout through spiritual practice? Burnout is, in part, a disconnection from the body and from your own true voice. Somatic spiritual practice addresses this directly, by returning you to the place inside yourself where you can hear what you actually need, before the demands of the outside world drown it out. It is slow work, but it is the only work that holds.

Magic is Key is a trauma-informed online mystery school of effective spiritual practices, founded by sisters Pipaluk and Serafina. We combine shamanic witchcraft, sacred seasonal traditions, tarot, and modern somatic practices to help people reconnect with their body, heal from burnout, and live a fully embodied, magical life rooted in ancient wisdom.
