How to Actually Change Your Habits (Spirit + Science)

We all try to break bad habits, especially around New Year's. It may be out loud with a raised glass and surrounded by friends, or it may be in silence with only the stars as witness. But the act is the same: we set the intention for a new version of ourselves.

Our acts in January are often heroic and entwined with consumption. We buy gym passes, supplements, classes. We start strong.

I used to be like that. But I learned quickly that magic and modern science are key to real change. Now, when I look back at the habits I used to have, I barely recognize myself.

1. The Identity Shift (It’s Not About Willpower)

Begin by focusing on one change. Maybe it’s reducing scrolling, stopping alcohol, or starting to exercise. As you look at this habit, ask yourself:

Does the way I perceive myself align with this new lifestyle?
