Do you know the difference between a labyrinth and a maze? In a labyrinth you go in on a long winding path until you come to the center. From there you continue walking, winding your way back out again. Its design is intended to lead you to the center and return you back to where you started. In contrast, a maze is designed to get you lost.

Modern life is very much designed like a maze. Powerful brands and algorithms draw our attention outwards in multiple directions beyond what we can consciously count. By the end of it we might have purchased a bunch of things but feel more lost and confused than ever in regards to what life is all about.

I don't think it was always like this. I think life, at its foundation, was designed to be a labyrinth. When we look at the journey we all go through, the same cycles repeat everywhere in some shape or form. An example of such a cycle is birth, growth, decay and death. We find this cycle in a big way, quite literally in the physical journey we go through, and in plenty of metaphorical ways. We start new jobs, go on vacation, have children and all these journeys of our lives have this same cycle in some shape or form.

When we bring our focus to the labyrinth of life, we remove ourselves from the maze. The path is still filled with challenges and there is also plenty of celebration to be had along the way. Yet, we are not lost, no matter how dark or light it gets.
