Do you ever feel like you would enjoy a little more romance in your life? Let me share something with you that you’ve probably never considered.

Instead of doing a spiritual practice such as meditation, or studying the sacred mysteries and exploring witchcraft in order to have mystical experiences, feel inner peace and harmony, or cast spells for a specific outcome, consider this: do it for romance!

When we engage in any spiritual practice or magic, we are stepping into a special kind of relationship with the cosmos, with our desires, and with our innate creative energy.

Romance is all about relationship! This can be with someone, like when we lean in close to a person who smells wonderful and they lean back. Or it can happen when we are alone. For example, beneath a canopy of trees, when the sound of the wind in the leaves caresses our ears, the scent of earth titillates our nose, and we lean into nature and nature leans into us. It is romantic when we open our hearts to it.

Magic, witchcraft, sacred mysteries, meditation, and ancient rituals all have the potential to feel utterly romantic. This becomes especially true when we do them for pleasure and joy, without any specific outcome in mind. True romance requires authenticity and being fully present in the moment. Isn’t that what so much of mindfulness practice is all about?

Every year in December, we court some of the most magically potent nights of the year. In dark winter nights, we light candles and watch the smoke of herbs rise and dance in the flickering light. We dream into the liminal and receive prophecies for the year to come. We leave our burdens behind and participate in the weaving of our future.
